I grew up in the North East of England on a large property surrounded by my first love, animals, horses especially.
We emigrated to Australia in 1981, just before I turned seventeen, to start a new life and adventure!
Life got busy,college,work,marriage,children..etc. In 2009 I decided to rekindle my passion for art as our girls were now older and getting on with their own lives and it seemed perfect timing.
I studied at Mackay TAFE for a couple of years part time and loved it, being around like minded people and sharing ideas and techniques it was a great time in my life and it gave me the courage to hold my first solo exhibition called “Wildlife” in 2010 at the cafe at Mackays’ Botanical Gardens.
I have been entering some of my work into local art shows and I have been very lucky with my achievements:
“Highly Commended”- Mackay Art Society 2011 Art Show. Category -Art on Paper- Pastel drawing of a Rhinoceros called “Proud”
“Highly Commended”-Sarina Art Extravaganza 2013. Open category- Acrylic on gessoed card painting -“The Bond”
“1st Prize”-Sarina Art Extravaganza 2014. Category-Portraiture – “Tribute to a local Legend”
My second solo exhibition “A Few of my Favourite Things” 2014 was held at The Cafe at the Botanical Gardens ,Mackay .
I love to paint animals, I try to capture their beautiful spirit and energy within the image. I am fascinated by the bond between people and animals and I try to portray this unique connection between the two.
I work in many different mediums – pencil, pastel, acrylic, oils and mixed media.
I find art very rewarding , it is challenging and can be very frustrating at times but the more I do the more inspired I become.
The possibilities are endless with art!
